C P. The man and the party.

This is something that've been playing in my head for quite a while.

The Japanese killed thousands and tortured many people during their occupation of Malaya. They took our forefathers from their homes and family to work on the Death Railway, carving out the Hellfire Pass. We are often reminded of their horrific act and are still scared of alleged hantu jepun sightings here and there.

Yet, after they surrendered and the war ended, we are now in good terms with them. What's past is the past. They are our closest trading partner. We send our students to study their technology. Some of our schools teach their language and celebrate their culture. I personally am in love with sushi and so are many others.

The thing is, if why can we forgive them for their three odd years of brutality then why is it so hard for us to forgive the communists? Three years of Japanese brutality over two weeks of them commies. Why is it so difficult? Is it because unlike Japan, they offer no economical benefit to the country?

Nelson Mandela after becoming president after the collapse of apartheid did not call for the blacks to wage a vendetta against the whites. Instead he tried to unite the people and bring them together in unity as South Africans and no longer as black or whites. What more greatness could men achieve if not to embrace their oppressor, their tyrant as a friend?

I'm not going to say that we should forget what the commies did back then. I mean, we didn't forget what the Japs did did we? But if we can forgive and turn a new leaf to one enemy, then we should try to do the same to others as well.

One man's freedom fighter is another man's terrorist.

We are humans after all. Humans make mistakes.

The Family

1985 Lubitel 166B, 1979 KMZ Zenit-E, 1985 Minolta X700, 2007 Nikon D40.

A bunch of cameras camwhoring. Heh.

I love the Soviet camera's industrial design. Simple and reliable. As sharp as the Soviet sickle and as hard as the hammer that crosses it.

In vintage Japan camera, I prefer Pentax and Olympus's stylings.

Nowadays I'm fond of Nikon's ergonomics and boldness though I am sometimes captivated by Canon's sensual curves and simple lines.

When people ask me what camera to buy, I would usually tell them to go and grab the one that feels nicest to their hands.

All in all, it's just a tool. It's what you do with it that matters.

Right?

Beautiful yet untouchable.

This is me going out of the comfort zone in two fronts. I usually do my pictures warm and I can't recall the last time I did anything blue.

Another thing I love horizontal photos. I don't often shoot tall so I decided to give it a try today.

So yeah, leave me alone.

There have been people walking up to me telling me things I often already know.

Like, "Hadi, don't you think that person is using you?"

Yeah, I know I'm being used.

That's okay.

In my own little ways I am also using that person.

We are all using one another.

Always.

Think Different

Here's why I use Macs.

Here’s to the crazy ones.

The misfits.

The rebels.

The troublemakers.

The round pegs in the square holes.

The ones who see things differently.

They’re not fond of rules.

And they have no respect for the status quo.

You can praise them, disagree with them, quote them,

disbelieve them, glorify or vilify them.

About the only thing you can’t do is ignore them.

Because they change things.

They invent. They imagine. They heal.

They explore. They create. They inspire.

They push the human race forward.

Maybe they have to be crazy.

How else can you stare at an empty canvas and see a work of art?
Or sit in silence and hear a song that’s never been written?
Or gaze at a red planet and see a laboratory on wheels?

We make tools for these kinds of people.

While some see them as the crazy ones,
we see genius.

Because the people who are crazy enough to think
they can change the world, are the ones who do.

Humans are amazing creatures.

Even when they are happy, they are willing to throw it all away.

For a few moments of thrill.

The probably is more interesting that the definitely.

Maybe.

Even when facing certain difficulty, they are willing for it to go from bad to worse.

For a few moments of fun.

A few minutes of laughter can drown a few years of sorrow.

Masa dan Ubah

There's no such thing as 'buang masa'.

Din dan Supian main gitar tepi sungai. Buang masa kah?

Azrol duduk berfikir dikerusi malas sambil kepala mendongak siling. Buang masa kah?

Barjoyai tekun mendengar persamaan ketiga-tiga lagu The Unforgiven. Buang masa kah?

Man mencoret-coret di atas sehelai kertas. Buang masa kah?

Zizul merongkah enjin motor. Buang masa kah?

There's no such thing as 'buang masa'.

Mungkin Din dan Supian sedang mencipta lagu tentang kedamaian yang dirompak kerakusan kapitalisma. Mungkin lagu mereka setelah kita semua dengar mampu merubah dunia.

Mungkin minda Azrol sarat memikirkan cabang baru sistem demokrasi.

There is no such thing as 'buang masa'.

Everybody can and everybody is changing the world. Each and everyone of us. All the time.

Just make sure it's for the better. Change and improvement are not synonyms.

Dendam Tak Sudah

I've never been in a fight my entire life. I've never punch anyone, never kicked, never slapped, never pushed, never, never, never.. no one.

Still, I've had my fair share of being physically hurt by several people throughout my life. It wasn't a fight because I can't fight back. Perhaps it was probably not a fight because I didn't fight back. Oh well..

I like to tell people that I don't hold grudges but the truth is, I do.

Why forgive when you can't forget?

I still remember that kid who pushed me down that tembok in Surau SS5 back in 1996. I still do remember that other kid who pushed me down that ledge tepi padang SK Kelana Jaya 1 one afternoon back in 1998. Why did you have to do that to me? Does it satisfy your ego? Or are fat kids are just meant to be pushed around.. pushed down.. a funny freakshow?

I still remember how hot that cement floor felt back in 2001 and how my burnt hands felt for days after. I still remember how that toilet slipper felt as it hits my left cheek. I still remember that night in 2002 when you took off your ring and slapped me in front of my friends and that evening when I know what if felt like not be able to breathe as you punched my chest.. four times. Yes, sure I was wrong. But were you right?

Of course, how could I forget that teacher who punched me in the head for no good reason aside his self-righteous ego. You and me are not done, keep that in mind.

But all in all.. I especially remember that woman, someone's mother I suppose, who ridiculed me back in tadika because my flu makes me messy and she said I tak mandi. I can't find a place in my heart to forgive you and rest assured that I will keep it that way for years to come. I hope your husband divorced you.

That's probably why I don't like messing around with kids. That's probably why I generally avoid kids. Kids remember these sort of things.. and if they are like me, they won't forget.

My dear friends, when was the last time you've seen me being mad?

For that, I am terribly afraid that I might do something very stupid one day.
